Synopsis
Dr. Ivan Misner shares tips from Chapter 6 of his book Givers Gain, which covers the years 1990-1994. The one-to-one dance cards started at a conference during this time period. This was also when Dr. Misner developed his vision of an international organization and began working on the business instead of in it.
Some important points about how the BNI franchise works:
- 95% of all the revenue of every group stays within the country of that franchise.
- Franchise owners are all BNI members who work their way up.

BNI does participate in trade shows, and so do many individual BNI members. Here are some tips for making a trade show or conference effective for building your business.
- Make new friends: you’re there to network.
- Meet the competition.
- Volunteer to speak when you first hear about the conference.
- Be social.

Synopsis
Networking commandments 6-10. If you haven’t heard the first 5 commandments, go back and listen to Episode 32.
6. Give referrals whenever possible.
7. Ask each person you meet for one or two cards to pass on and one for yourself.
8. Spend no more than 10 minutes with each person.
9. Write notes on the back of business cards you collect (unless you’re in Asia).
10. Follow up!
