Dear Ivan,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on real "Givers Gain" networking. I'm hoping to share your comments with the Membership Committee of the chapter I belong to. Of late I have not heard much about “Givers Gain” from members or when asked to do a BNI Overview.

My concern is when the Leadership forgets about “Givers Gain” and starts acting like the "What's in it for me" people. There was a time when the previous leadership worked very hard and went the extra mile to be sure that new members did support "Givers Gain". I'm afraid the new Leadership is less inclined to interviewing with this personality trait in mind.

Maybe you could do an episode on how to get leadership to Walk the Walk & Talk the Talk.

Hi Dr. Misner,

Thank you for sharing this topic in depth. Many of us have this kind of 'first' thought before embarking on any social clubs or networking group.

Yeah, I do agree with you, somehow, effective networking these days are not merely a handshake but is alot of getting to know the other individual and following through. It is like building another 'family' that do business together.

Is really not easy to have people made their intention known intially as they have put up fences around them to observe your intention before they consider what kind of relationship they want to have with you. It really takes alot of effect to turn networking into relationship building. However, I reckon, people do enjoy the personal attention and 'touches'.

Thank you for sharing and putting emphasis in things that many of us may have already known but have forgotten. It is a good reminder. Now it is all up to us to switch the 'how to's to why we want to establish that relationship. Only then we can build lasting relationship.

Dear Dr. Ivan,
Thank you for this insightful topic. I have found when we start being 'givers' in a networking situation and beyond, we will find that a 'trust' begins to build, an often enough amazing opportunity unfolds beyond expectation. Its a very refreshing and attractive magnetism when you meet people who genuinely are a 'giver' The best part is that it can be learnt, adopted, implemented, and one can savour the good fruit of 'giving-ness'

Dear Dr. Misner,

I think this is one of your best. I am so glad that you talked about sifting out the "what's-in-it-for me" types and did not encourage therapy for them.

They are really easy to spot when you develop an eye. The BNI Membership Committee members really need to get this.

I would rather add a new member that understands and embraces "Givers Gain" than the top dog in their field of expertise. If they are both, all the better.

Thanks again for sharing these gems for those that have ears to hear.

All the BEST,
Tom Doiron
