Jeremy Walsh joins Dr. Misner again today to explain how to create your own group on BNI Connect. Any BNI member who is a part of BNI Connect can create a group, as can director consultants. Each person is limited to managing seven (7) groups–which is plenty to try to stay on top of!
Here are a few tips for group success.
- If you want more people to join, don’t make the group too niche.
- Make sure you have co-moderators, or you will be exhausted.
- Make sure that you maintain activity in the group at least once every 90 days to keep it alive.
- Take a look at the existing groups before you create a group on BNI Connect: find out where the activity is and where the gaps are.
It’s easy to create a group on BNI Connect. When you log in, click “Network” and then “Groups.” There’s a big button that says “Add Group.” Click that button. Name the group. Choose whether you want an open group, an invite-only group, or a members-can-invite group. (The latter two are not listed.) Give the group a description, choose a language, and choose which contacts to invite to join the group. Click “Submit” and your group will be created.
Moderating means making sure the conversation is going in a positive direction. You can remove offensive posts directly or ask the poster to do so; if necessary, you can ban a person from the group. Most BNI members cooperate when asked to behave professionally. As a moderator, you should go into your profile and set your notifications to a minimum of once a day.
